Dr. Mary Snow, Board Member
Mary grew up on a large farm in southern Minnesota, studied music at the University of Minnesota, arts and theater in education at the University of Colorado and became a school teacher. She has a BFA in the Arts, Master of Education, and earned a Doctor of Related Arts from the University of Cincinnati. She devoted her career to teaching in public schools, businesses, colleges and universities both in the states and southeast Asia. An avid fan of Shakespeare, she attended the Ashland Shakespeare plays in the Globe as a youngster while visiting her grandmother in Oregon. Later, in college, Mary studied Shakespeare and participated in debates on whether he indeed wrote all the plays and sonnets attributed to him. Throughout her academic career, she continued to support the arts with teaching grants, research in relationships between academic subjects and the arts, publishing coorelations between music and math, reading and theater performance and between visual art and social studies. That particular study was supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Education during a post-doctorate internship in Harrisburg and her publication continues to be valid. Throughout her teaching career Mary remained devoted to the arts and true to her roots as a farm girl from Minnesota. She is retired from teaching but continues to study the string instruments and still plays music professionally.
She and her husband Doug restored the barn at Tall Fir Acres in 2001 and it became a performance hall. The Barn has been the venue for numerous Dover Youth Strings concerts, private dinners, weddings, dances, receptions and parties and has been the regular venue for OrangeMite Studios’ Shakespeare In The Barn program, as well as many other events.
